Modern History (Rai 1 - Nettuno Consortium – Open University) Lesson 26 "The Italian Unification" Prof. Francesco Barbagallo |
Vediamo l'Italia prima dell'Unificazione e andiamo molto all'indietro. |
Introducing of Italy before the national unification we have to go back far in time. The Italian Unification gave the dimension of Nation and State to a geographic definition which have had the name of "Italiae" nearly 2000 years before. At the time of the late Roman Republic and then the Roman Empire “Italiae” was named the territory not directly province of Rome but the territory where all the free men were Roman citizen. In comparison to other great civilization of the Universal history, like China, Persia, Egypt and Greek, which have had to suffered eclipses in the political history and collective conscience, eclipses which have interrupted the continuity of the historical tradition of those countries, Italy, in opposition, has continuously maintained the collective conscience since the 1 BC, for over 2000 years, despite of the divisions and the colonization of parts of the Italian territory by other domains like German, Byzantine, Arab, French, Spanish, Austrian. The relevance of the history and tradition in common, despite of the divisions of the territory and the conflicts, internal and international, has exceptional dimension in the collective Italian conscience, and this aspect has been spotted out by a well recognized French historian (Jacques Le Goff). |
Italy, nevertheless, has never been a territory politically united since the arrival or the Langobard in 568. So, from 568 until 1851 Italy was divided in more parts, a number of states. For 13 centuries the history of Italy has been the history of several political identities and states, independent each other. And for consequence the history of Italy before the Unification has a multinational character, and the social and political history of Italy has a strong regional character and dimension. The Background preparing the union of Italy may be easy found in the Italian Culture. |

ththth Professore? stop, stop Ma lei ci crede davvero a queste cose?
ththth Professor? stop, stop Do you really believe these things? In 49 BC Julio Caesar was near by the actual town of Rimini, over the Rubicon, and wrote "de bello gallico" not the Italico. May be Romans have named "Italy" the Provinces in Gaul (Gallia), but the Romans never said Rome was in Italy, they never named themselves Italians, and didn't do the Italian Empire. And also the donation of the pope Sisto IV (1471), the Capitoline wolf. In the legend the wolf is from V BC but in the opinion of the labs the wolf is dated the same period of Sisto IV. A wolf-hoax, all in all, a Trojan horse. May be Rome was in need of a legend like Cain and Abel, in order to justify some massacre of the Inquisition… But the Capitoline wolf cannot be Pre-Christian, and later I will tell you why. Immediately I like to remind also Dante never said to be Italian neither to speck Italian, and truly Metternich said the States of the Italian peninsula were always fighting each other and never existed a league, a flag, nor an alliance named Italy before |

In the Greek-Roman world was possible to choose one god from a variety of gods
in order to ask personal protection, but this choice didn't mean to convert to monotheism.
The variety of different believes and religions were not competing each other for the exclusive compliance. For the people educated to classic Greek philosophy, the faith was the lower level of conscience, the psychological condition of ignorant. The philosophical activity is always superior whatever divine inspiration Actors of the change were not the masses of the new Christians, but the advent of a new emperor deluded by inefficiency of the gods.
For consequence of him the message of an itinerant prophet who may be never imagined
to start a new church and a new faith Jesus wanted to aim the poor, but three centuries after him, after overturning all values, the church of Jesus Christ became an imperial instrument of power. |
All over the Roman empire the Christians have sacked and plundered the pagan temples, and have burn all the not conforming books, the philosophical and cultural legacy of the ancient world.Several priests became famous for the destruction of idols,
and the opponents have had to face the revenge of the sword of God The crosses have sealed the forced Christianisation, made a guarantee against the return of the daemons and took over the places and properties of the pagans. All not conforming books were burned, the philosophical books and cultural legacy of the ancient world.

In conclusion I have to remind the Renaissance culture was made of Catholic
Heresies. The Renaissance Culture was a revolution against the Roman Catholic Culture and oppression, and for this reason I have to ask how could the Professor transform the Renaissance Culture into Roman Catholic tradition?
Eventually the inquisition was... The Catholic teaching of the Renaissance culture is impossible, catholic speaking would be a blasphemy this is clear, but how did the Renaissance culture turn up? To be transformed into propaganda of intellectual freedom and intellectual pride of the Roman Catholic persecutors... And concerning Italian conscience? Dear professor you describe it very well, but is difficult to believe nobody ever asked you these simple questions… Dear professors and ministers I can't believe to be the only one and for this reason I take this occasion to ask again, in public, and to remind the consolidated tradition you make people disappear |
